Is it possible to do a fixboot or a fixmbr from a Vista PC to an external disk with XP on it?
When i fried my motherboad on my old laptop i bought a new laptop. I was able to find an external casing for my old harddrive. All of the files are still there, but im to boot from the external casing, (my BIOS supports it)
I get an error when trying to boot from my old drive,
XLDR !ATA and it doesn’t move from that screen. Usually this happens bcause the partition tables were messed with and the boot record was fizzled.
So is there anyway I can do that?
You have another problem. That XP installation is not going to boot on your new laptop. The hardware doesn’t match. You would have to re-install.
To fix the boot sector, why don’t you boot-up your laptop with an XP install disk and enter the recovery console. Try it from there.
