Chantal-Denise: Ateneo or UP?

Thankfully, I passed both.

ATENEO – BFA Information Design

UP – DPWS (But I’m aiming for BFA Film and Audio Visual Communication)

These two schools are the only schools I took entrance tests from. And both universities are my dream school. And I like both of my chosen courses. My dad’s from Ateneo, and my mom’s from UP.

So.. what do you guys think is better for me?

The course that you took in Ateneo is a very young course, so the program has still a long way to go. In fact, only 10 people have graduated from that course in 2007. However, the programs director of that course is very competent. Although it seems that you also intend to shift courses once you get to U.P, so i suggest you look at the schools and the kind of education as well as the learning environment that these schools have to offer.

Ateneo is, of course, has a much safer atmosphere. Although the campus is not immune to petty thieves and outsiders trying to take advantage of the students. The corridors are lined with guards at all times, to the point that most students goes to the extent of trying to avoid them. In terms of studies, Ateneo is very focused on core subjects, showering students with a myriad of Philosophy, Theology, Psychology, Economics and others. This is because the school aims to produce graduates with a common mind-frame that would make them distinctly Atenean.

UP, however, has an enormous campus. They have pretty much everything you need (even a bank and a barangay hall). In terms of education, they have excellent arts programs and their core subjects are limited. You are allowed to go straight to your major subjects almost immediately. However, lines are long, and most students do not get to graduate on time because they are unable to take the subjects they need.

The choice is really up to you. You have to decide what kind of education you are looking for
