Patch Cables
Patch Cables also known as the Patch Cords are cables which connect two optical devices. The patch cable is optical or an electric cable which is used for the above purpose. It is usually in a different color than the other cables. This helps in differentiating the Patch cable from the rest of the other wires. These wires can be as short as 3 inches to patch an optical device. Short patch cables are also called pigtails; these are used to connect small devices like the phone to modem or something like that.
It is made of coaxial cables and has a thick covering around the cable so that there is no loss of information through the disturbances of other electro magnetic waves which is surrounding the patch cable. The electro magnetic waves around the patch cable are caused due to the presence and the functioning of other wires around it. As the other cables function, they have a magnetic field around them caused by the flow of electricity in them. And if this somehow reaches the patch cable, there might be loss of information or stagnancy of the information being passed on. The patch cable can be as long as 6 meters long. As the length of the cable gets longer and longer, the thickness of the cable gets thicker and thicker. The thickness ensures that there is no loss of data in the transit or there is no damage caused to it on the way. These cables are used widely around the globe.
